Joseph Briggle was born in 1802 in Geisinger Germany he married Catherine Beard from Co.. and bought 79.2800 acres of land in Steubenville Ohio on April 17, 1828. He died in 1775 in Stark Co, Ohio (Stark Co. is where Briggle Ave is located since 1855)

Joseph Briggle was the son of John Michael Briggle of Haubersbrann, Germany and Maria Rosina Briggle of Geisinger, Germany . Joseph sailed from Amsterdam for America when he was six years old on the ship Verny. He first settled in Lancaster County and later in York Co. Pennslvania. Some time around 1835 he moved to Pierce, Ohio, Pike Township, Stark County.

Joseph and Catherine with all the children are listed in the 1860 Federal Census for Stark County Ohio

My father's grandmother was Caroline Briggle - she was born Oct. 30, 1829 in Sparta, Ohio according to our records. Her father was Joseph Briggle - her mother was Catherine Beard.

Joseph Briggle was the son of John Michael Briggle of Haubersbrann, Germany and Maria Rosina Briggle of Geisinger, Germany . Joseph sailed from Amsterdam for America when he was six years old on the ship Verny. He first settled in Lancaster County and later in York Co. Pennslvania. Some time around 1835 he moved to Pierce, Ohio, Pike Township, Stark County.

Joseph and Catherine had 12 children - Their first was Caroline.. Caroline married Henry Shimp One of their daughters (Mary Malissa) married Alvin Dyer their son, Charles was my father.

Notes

Philip Smith came to America when a young man with his two brothers,Henry and Adam. He lived and died in Ashland County, Ohio. His family is listed in the 1860 census,page 181,microcopy #653, Roll#930. It lists Philip, 36, Elizabeth,25,William,6, and Mary,4. They had a total of 13 children. Philip died at age 52 and is buried in the German Reformed and Luthern Church cemetary in Ashland OH along with their children John 2yr,and Malinda 3mo.

After Philip died in 1875 Elizabeth and her children stayed in Ashland for awhile and in 1888 she and 9 of her children moved to Benton County,IA. In 1890 they moved to Sioux County where they invested in land and were very successful farmers. A donation of their land was made to build the Mt. Joy Church of God and the family were all charter members. After her children were grown Elizabeth's small house was moved into the town of Ireton where she was known as "Grandma Smith" until her death in 1917 at age 81.
